“Taste Jiangnan Culture, Admire Suzhou Crafts” Intangible Cultural Heritage Experiencing Event for Expats in Suzhou was held at Crowne Plaza Suzhou on the afternoon of September 19, attracting more than 50 participants from over 10 countries. It was co-sponsored by Suzhou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Suzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and Management Office.
The event kicked off with a video in which Maren from the US went to Zhenhu to study Suzhou Embroidery. Zhang Lixing, dubbed “the most beautiful embroiderer”, then introduced the history of Suzhou Embroidery, and compared it with other famous embroideries in China. The following experiencing section triggered participants’ passion for needlework. They followed the instructions given by teachers to make their own double-sided embroidery fan.
In recent years, Suzhou Foreign Affairs Office and Suzhou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries are devoted to helping expats fit into their life and work in Suzhou by organizing a lot of events such as Foreigners’ Talent Show, Experiencing Activities for Expats, etc., so as to promote the high-quality development of Suzhou.
